Well, UML isn't really a design methodology, it's a
notation system. There are some design methodologies
that make use of UML though.

Constantine and Lockwood use some UML in their Usage
Centered Design system, so you might investigate that.

You might also consider getting in touch with William
Hudson at Syntagm
http://www.syntagm.co.uk/design/whudson.htm. I think
that he maintains some resources about using UML with a
UCD process.

Without knowing more about your project, it's hard to
recommend a more appropriate methodology, though. But
